Yesterday was a tough day for me. For a blogger, it was about as difficult as it can get.
I had set up my domain, themeasuredmom.com, to auto-renew. I had marked it on my calendar and checked my account with my domain provider just to make sure. It was all set to go.
Then I received an e-mail from my domain provider saying that the auto-renew had failed.
My heart was in my throat, and panic mode set in.
You see, a blogger’s domain is something she can’t let go of. There are people who wait in line to buy domains from successful sites. When they see that the domain expires, they snatch it up for a few dollars and hold it in “ransom” for thousands upon thousands of dollars.
When I went to my site, it wasn’t there. In its place was an adult ad.
My years of hard work, my beautiful site I’ve been blessed to call mine… replaced by a disgusting and dirty image.
A frantic call to my domain provider told me that they didn’t have my credit card on file and couldn’t auto-renew. But not to panic, as they were still holding on to my domain. After five long hours of waiting, watching, and calling, my site was still down. The disgusting image was still there.
I received e-mail after e-mail from people wondering what was going on. I sent out a note to my newsletter subscribers and I updated my Facebook page. And nearly every one of you had confidence and encouraging words. You were sure that this was not my fault, that I was working to get it fixed. You felt badly for me, many of you were praying for me, and you’d be waiting for me when everything was back in order.
When I made my third call to the company, I finally reached a customer service rep who was not only sympathetic, but who would get the job done.
Moved by her generous heart (and my tears!), she told me she’d make sure it was done before she went home for the day. No more tickets. She’s speak to the tech department herself. Ten minutes later, my site was back up.
Did you know that today marks The Measured Mom’s two year anniversary? I’ve still got my domain! And this time I’m renewing for eight years so we can avoid yesterday’s disaster for a looong time.
Plus, we are oh so close to 10,000 email subscribers. Let’s celebrate!
I’m giving away a set of materials that will come in handy when you use the free printables from my website. And since it’s my second anniversary, I’m choosing two winners!
Regretfully, this giveaway can only be open to US residents.
Each of the winners will receive:
- Clear Velcro dots. Use them to assemble my Beginning Sound Mats or my Read ‘n Stick Mats.
- Poker chips. Cover the pictures on my Letter Sound Worksheets or play Rhyming Bingo.
- Alphabet Stamps. Stamp the words on my Short Vowel Stamp & Spell worksheets.
- Cardstock & Long arm stapler. Print and assemble my sight word books, letter books, beginning alphabet books, or phonics books.
- Blank dice. Use them to play Kite Roll and Cover or to differentiate any other dice game.
Psalm 106:1 Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever.
