Your learners will love this free set of games for reading ai and ay words!

About a year ago, I started sharing reading games and worksheet packs for long vowel words.
We made good progress!
Then… I got distracted. Writing an ebook about teaching writing took about four months.
And then, well… managing this blog and caring for our six littles (while sometimes managing to clean the house, ahem) sort of got in the way of my progress.
But I’m back with reading games! My goal is to finish a giant set of long vowel games in 2017. So be sure to join our free email list if you don’t want to miss them!
Today I’m sharing a set of four-in-a-row games for ai and ay words.
How to play
- Print the game of your choice. In the download, you’ll find a game for ay words, a game for ai words, and a game for both ai and ay words.
- Grab two different colored Do-a-Dot markers, colored counters, or markers.
- Take turns reading a word. Dot, cover, or color the word.
- The first to get four in a row, wins!
So it’s been a year since I did the other ai/ay games with my Six. He’s in the middle of first grade now and an excellent reader. So he really doesn’t need these.
But he’s always up for a game of Four-in-a-Row. 🙂
I love that these games are quick and fun. But you can always make the game longer. Instead of going for four in a row, take turns reading and dotting until the board is completely covered.
We hope you enjoy these! Be sure to scroll to the end of this post to get other activities for ai/ay words.
