Looking for printable books about animals in the ocean? You’ll love this set of four free sight word readers.
It’s time for set 25 of our free sight word books! Do you know that with this set we’ve shared one hundred free books for your early reader? I can hardly believe it myself!

This set of book features the sight word “down,” and correlates with lesson 29 of our favorite preschool reading curriculum, Reading the Alphabet. With the exception of Down at the Beach, each book is about animals in the ocean.
But this was a tough week.
After a week of illness cycling through all five of our kids, a few are still the weather. And this afternoon it hit my husband. I’m probably next… so I wanted to be sure to share this newest set before I’m down for the count!
Sight word books about animals in the ocean
Let’s take a peek at one of them.
As you can see, I try to keep the books pretty basic because these are for beginning readers. I used the new sight word “down” (and last lesson’s word, “that,”) as often as possible. I also added in some words that your child will need to use phonics knowledge to solve — words like “puff,” “float,” “hide,” and “swim.”
However, even if your child’s understanding of phonics is not strong yet, the picture clues and beginning sounds will help.
For example, my Four is not ready to learn to read long vowel words yet. “Float” had him stumped. I covered the end of the word and encouraged him to read the first two sounds.
“What does fl say?”
“Right. So what could a jellyfish do that starts with /fll/?”
Sometimes grammar clues can help. Your child might be able to figure out “over” on the last page by thinking about what would sound right in the sentence. My Four wasn’t ready for that one, even with the clues, so I gave him the word.
I hope you enjoy the variety in these little books!
