Today I’m sharing another free nonfiction reader!
This book is a freebie from my Spring Theme Pack. It’s one of a collection of ten nonfiction readers that are perfect for kids just starting to read.
The book has the following text:
Kids can dig.
Kids can plant.
Kids can water.
Kids can pick.
Kids can carry.
Kids can eat.
I wrote the word “can” on an index card and showed it to my Four before we got started. Even though he can’t sound out words yet, I showed him that the three sounds together make the word can.
I asked him to show me the word “can” on the cover of the book.
He easily picked up the pattern of the book. On each page, I encouraged him to figure out the last word using the first letter as a clue.
He did well until we got to “kids can carry.” That was a tough one!
How to use this book
- Use it to teach concepts of print and beginning sounds with a pre-reader (that’s what I do!).
- Use it with a beginning reader who is just starting to learn sight words.
- Give it to an early reader to read all by himself.
