THANK YOU for posting this interview!
I’ve shared it with the k-2 teachers in the school in which I m currently working. (I am a retired special teacher, currently working as a reading intervention tutor).
I have been a fan of Blevins for years and am currently using his PHONICS TO READING materials in ‘outside’ tutoring!

Yes! Yes! Yes!
I have been an advocate of structured literacy for decades. While I’m thrilled that people are interested in learning more about structured literacy, I am concerned about many of the things Wiley Blevins addressed in this podcast – decodable books having to be 100% decodable, covering up what hasn’t been learned yet on the sound wall, whole group v. small group instruction, and more. He was spot on! One thing he didn’t get a chance to discuss, which concerns me greatly, is the seeming over reliance on how to map every single word a child comes across as they read.
I am great full for his wisdom, common sense, and ability to make all of this assessable to teachers.
I love his books and even though I have told myself “no more books!” I just ordered two more of his books.
Thank you for featuring him on your program!

You can never have too many Wiley Blevins books. 🙂 I agree that he’s the voice of sanity in the world of structured literacy!
