Simple sight word books set 4: “I”

Today I’m sharing four free sight word books that teach the sight word “I.”

(This post contains affiliate links.)

Now that my preschooler shows all the reading readiness signs, I’ve been teaching him to read. We keep it very light – just a few times a week for no more than 10-15 minutes at each session.

We’ve been using Reading the Alphabet (a preschool reading curriculum), a lot of my phonics printables, and my new sight word books.

Each week, I teach a new sight word. Sometimes we need to do a lot of activities to get that new word into his head. “I” was pretty simple, for obvious reasons. 😉

Instead of doing activities to teach the new sight word (since he already knew it), we did this simple concepts of print activity from Reading the Alphabet. I cut apart the words, told him the sentence, and watched him build it.

Even though he can’t read most of those words in isolation, he could figure them out based on their beginning sounds.

Next, we moved right into our sight word books. Each book in our simple sight word book series has the name of the sight word on the cover.

This book is about forest animals.

This one is about firefighters.

This one is about a lunch.

And this one is about pets.

As you can see, the books are super simple. They’ll get tougher as we get into later books, but the point here is to build confidence with a few simple words.

We look forward to sharing more of these books over the next year! (Don’t wait to wait? Grab the entire set in our shop.)

Grab the color version in the free download below.

How to assemble:

  • Print pages 2-9 front to back (page 1 is my Terms of Use).  Print in color or grayscale.
  • Cut across the horizontal center of each page.
  • Insert one set of pages into the other, paying attention to the page numbers.
  • Staple with a long-armed stapler.

Do your mini books come in black and white so kids can color the pictures?

Hi Tammy! The simple sight word books DO come in both color and black and white. The regular sight word books (set of 104) do not.

I tutor special needs children and ‘reluctant readers’ who are each unique in their requirement for material that addresses their specific ability to learn. This invariably means tailoring individual programs and games for each student. It’s a constant challenge to create material that is both stimulating and engaging.

I’m always on the lookout for fresh ways to present the same material. When I found your website I knew I had hit the jackpot! You have so many wonderful ideas that I have been able to use in my tutoring very successfully. And I so appreciate that you are able to make many of them available for free. I look forward to every new email from you … you never seem to run out of great ideas! Thanks so much for what you do.
