When my Four was 2 1/2, he knew just a handful of letters. Since he loved music, I decided to create these printable books of rhymes and songs to help teach him the alphabet. It worked! Now I’m sharing each book with you as we move through the alphabet. It’s time for letter Q!
Free book of rhymes and songs for letter Q
Here are the rhymes and songs in the little book:
Q is for Queen
Pussycat, pussycat,
where have you been?
I’ve been to London
To visit the queen.
Pussycat, pussycat,
What did you there?
I frightened a little mouse
Under her chair.
Q is for Quill – sung to the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” (original rhyme (c) 2014 The Measured Mom)
In the old days when they wrote,
They used a quill to write the note.
Dipped it in the ink so dark,
On the paper made a mark.
In the old days when they wrote,
They used a quill to write the note.
Q is for Quarter – sung to the tune of “Are You Sleeping?”
Do you know the origins of this rhyme? I learned it because my daughter came home from kindergarten singing it.
Penny, nickel, dime.
Penny, nickel, dime.
Quarter, half dollar.
Quarter, half dollar
1, 5, 10,
1,5, 10
25, 50. 25, 50.
Q is for Queen of Hearts
The queen of hearts,
She made some tarts,
All on a summer’s day.
The knave of hearts,
He stole the tarts,
And took them clean away.
The king of hearts
Called for the tarts
And beat the knave full sore.
The knave of hearts brought back the tarts
And vowed he’d steal no more.
Q is for Quiet – sing to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”
Hush, ssh, quiet please,
Come and gather near.
Find a lap and sit right down,
Reading time is here.
Q is for Quietly
Quietly, quietly not a sound.
I’m listening and I’m listening
As I look around.
No sounds as I nod,
No sounds as I clap,
No sounds as I tap my hands on my lap .
Loudly, loudly, stamp and clap,
Loudly, loudly, stamp and clap,
Loudly, loudly, stamp and clap,
All that noise, well fancy that!
Assemble the book this way:
- Print the document in color (if you desire) on cardstock. Be sure to print pages 2-3 front to back (page 1 is my Terms of Use). You will need only one piece of paper.
- Cut a even line across the center of the page.
- Fold the two sheets to make a book. Make sure the cover is in front, and insert the other page inside.
- Staple with a long arm stapler.
