Have you seen my letter-themed math? Sometimes I put together a variety of ideas focused on a particular letter, like ten math ideas for the letter T. Other times I focus my collection around a single theme, like Letter M’s Monster Math or Letter L’s Ladybug Math.
I’m taking my boys (ages 3 and 5) on an alphabet exploration, and we’re on letter Z (no, we’re not done with the alphabet – find out why here). This week I decided to do something I do only rarely… create a worksheet pack.
So here you are… 15 free zoo worksheets for preschool and kindergarten!
(This post contains affiliate links.)
Today I’m sharing a pack of worksheets. NOT because I think worksheets are the best way to teach kids. NOT because I’m recommending that you do stacks of worksheets with your kids. Not because my older boys (ages 3 and 5) do a lot of worksheets. They do hardly any, in fact.
You can read more about my view on worksheets here: Are Worksheets Good or Bad?
I created these because I knew my boys would appreciate a change of pace. I placed the worksheets on the kitchen table and let them choose which pages to do. I sat there beside them to coach and assist as needed.
Okay. Disclaimer aside. Here are the worksheets!
These level one worksheets were created for young preschoolers. My Three (3 years, 8 months) completed them without any trouble. They’re probably more suited to a younger three-year-old.
The covered skills are:
- counting sets up to 5
- matching shapes to their shadows
- circling which is largest
- completing very simple (ABAB) patterns
- distinguishing shapes
These level two worksheets are good for older preschoolers. My Three was able to complete some of the pack, and my Five did a few as well (without any trouble).
The covered skills are:
- matching shapes to shadows
- basic addition
- counting objects up to 12
- completing more complex patterns
- choosing which object doesn’t belong
My Five (5 years, 4 months) is not yet in kindergarten, but he was able to do these with a little help. I think they’d work well for advanced preschoolers and children in kindergarten.
The covered skills are:
- reading a simple graph
- basic addition
- introduction to subtraction
- simple logic puzzles
- finding missing numbers up to 100
Print in grayscale if you desire.
My worksheet packs:
- Handwriting Worksheets
- Transportation Worksheets for Preschool
- Same and Different Worksheets for Preschool and Kindergarten
Some of my many alternatives to worksheets:
- Math activities with toy animals
- Math activities with toy vehicles
- Water math and science activities for kids ages 3-6
- Alphabet sensory bin
- Letter Hunt and Match
- Dump Truck Counting Mat
- Monster Count & Clip Cards
- Kite File Folder Game

I’m going to be doing “Gammy” school with my triplet grandsons this Summer (they’re request). Definitely going to include these Level 3 math sheets!
Enjoy, Lois!
These are really great worksheets. Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome, Talia!
Oh these are lots of fun!
Thanks, Cassie!
I have found with my own 4 kiddos that some really love and respond well to worksheets and some absolutely despise them. I think worksheets can be a wonderful supplement in moderation. They are like the carbohydrates of the learning diet – you don’t want too many of them. 🙂
Love the theme and these are super cute! My girls will enjoy them. Thanks for sharing them. 🙂
Love your carbohydrate analogy, Lauren! I may have to use that one… can extend it a bit more and say that we need “complex” carbohydrates and not the simple ones 🙂
My kids are going to love this – we are doing a zoo day tomorrow!! Thank you – Thank you!
You’re welcome, Michelle!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, THIS WILL HELP MY STUDENTS ENJOY THE TOPIC
You’re welcome, Novie!
Thanks so much for these!
You’re very welcome, Daniela!
