Here’s another super fun rhyme for kids: 5 Little Hot Dogs Sizzling in the Pan!
Did you see my recent post with ten reasons today’s kids still need to know nursery rhymes? Those rhymes from 500 years ago have so many important benefits for kids. But the modern rhymes are wonderful too! You might know this rhyme as “5 Little Sausages.” We like “five little hot dogs” because it’s more fun to say. It’s also something more kids can relate to.
Not that my kids ever eat hot dogs or anything. (Ahem.)
Pop on these finger puppets and say the rhyme to your baby, toddler, or preschooler. Your little one might like to put the puppets on his own fingers and act out the rhyme himself.
Start with all your fingers up. Then bend each finger as you move to a different verse.
Lyrics for “5 Little Hot Dogs Sizzling in a Pan”
5 little hot dogs sizzling in the pan,
The grease got hot and one went “BAM!”4 little hot dogs…
3 little hot dogs…
2 little hot dogs…
1 little hot dog…
No little hot dogs sizzling in the pan,
The grease got hot and the pan went “BAM!”
And yes, I am aware that “pan” and “bam” don’t rhyme. I learned in college, though, that this is called a slant rhyme. It’s all good. 🙂
Alternate lyrics:
5 fat sausages sizzling in a pan.
One went POP, the other went BANG!

Here’s my quick amateur video so you can see the rhyme in action. Apologies for the view from the back! I don’ t put my kids’ faces on the blog, but you can hear my Two’s little voice chime in on the “BAM!” It’s such a fun rhyme!
You’ll excuse the mess too, right? 🙂
