Hi, Anna! Congratulations on your 10 year anniversary! 🎉🎉🎉I enjoyed the SoR class you did with Becky. I have also enjoyed your decodable readers and sight word readers I have used with my grandson. It has made a world of difference learning to read and being so prepared for Kindergarten this year. It is totally music to my ears to hear him read aloud to me in the afternoons when I have the pleasure of picking him up from school. 😍
I have recently retired (for the second time) from the K-2 classroom and from reading intervention. Since retiring I have volunteered to do interactive read alouds in a 4 year classroom at his former Day School. If chosen to have a private conversation with you, I would like to discuss how to start my own reading consulting business as well as your opinion on a strong curriculum for 3 and 4 year old preschoolers.
    Again congratulations!
I look forward to more podcasts and webinars in the future.
    Thank you!
    Barbara 😊

    Hi Anna,
Congrats on your 10 year anniversary!
If you choose me I would like to discuss how to schedule my day to fit in all the things.
How to plan small group or even whole group phonics lessons. My school is pretty flexible and I can teach what I feel is best for my students. I do have a curriculum to follow but I can change and supplement where needed.
    Thank you for offering this!

    Hi Anna,
I am a Title Reading teacher
    I would like to discuss:
    1) Ideas for teaching blending for students who have the sounds but just can’t seem to put them together without naming all the sounds separately first.
    2) Decodable texts that have enough practice for older students who are working on the basics. The short decodables just don’t have enough practice.
    3) The structure of a literacy lesson when you have a short time frame.. Where do you put your main focus and why?
    4) More on how to get the most out of the data to support learning in an inner-city school.

I would love to chat about how to implement science of reading/ structured literacy when my district is currently using a balanced literacy approach and curriculum. In addition to this, I would love to chat about how I can help ignite a change in my district that is best for kids! I have mentioned it to my admin and my curriculum department coordinator, but I really want to start to bring change. Thank you again for all the knowledge you share and presenting this opportunity!

    Hello Anna
Thank you for this amazing giveaway. I would love to meet with you for one on one discussion.
I have been following your website for the past 8 years and I love your resources. I am a reading intervention teacher at my school. It is a Catholic all boys school in Trinidad. I do one on one 30 minute sessions with each student.

    The questions I have are:

    I. How to help an 8 year old who does not know letter sounds and cannot write.
    2. How to effectively track my students progress
    3. How to use the Science of Reading in my Day to day activities.
    4. At our school we use the Jolly Phonics programme which was developed in England. How do I link this to the Science of Reading.

    Exciting give-away!

I have three topics that I would discuss with you, given the opportunity:

    1. What research are you aware of / advice do you have for the very very early years, ie 2 – 3 year olds, in language and literacy development? I have been supporting a wee school in Gulu, Uganda, and would like to make sure that the advice I am giving is on the right track. My area is much more Kindergarten level, but there really isn’t anybody else to advise.
    2. How do you feel the ideal classroom timetable is structured? I am moving to a new age-group this year (NZ years 4-6, equivalent to US years 3-5, approximately ages 8 – 10). I am excited for the change. It is perfect timing to get some input as the school year will begin for us in February.
    3. Play-based learning for older students. Do you have experience or advice in this area? I am so excited to try it out in my new setting, but I also want to make sure that the children aren’t missing out on important direct instruction.

Love your website and all the fabulous resources, please keep doing what you are doing.

    Hello Anna
(Like you), I invested in Orton-Gillingham certification through the Dyslexia Training Institute (DTI) in San Diego, California. While you earned your certificate through a complementary organization, I would love to talk to you regarding how best to maximize my newfound knowledge and skills. I invested both financially and time-wise, needing yearly a year to complete my required 45, 50-minute lessons with one learner (along with video-taped critiques from my mentor). I’m especially interested in learning how best to incorporate multi-sensory instruction online, particularly with individuals diagnosed with dyslexia.
    Thank you.

I would love to chat with you specifically about choosing a SOR-based curriculum for Pre-K 3’s & 4’s. There doesn’t seem to be much info out there due to lack of good studies prior to Kindergarten. Our boss is still requiring the letter of the week curriculum (in alphabetical order) and teaching sight words as whole words, not sounding out the parts that can be decoded. I just don’t know how to get things changing!

    Hi!
I’m a K-5 Title reading specialist. We’re just dipping our toes into SoR, though we are finding that many of the practices and materials we were already using are aligned. I’d love to know where you’d recommend “preaching the gospel” of SoR, so to speak, to gen ed teachers. My teaching partner and I having been leading school-wide PD that is optional for teachers to attend, and while it’s been well-attended, we do have teachers who are reluctant to change their practices and data-gathering methods. Which ideas to we prioritize? How do we make these topics easier to swallow for everyone, as well as more enticing to explore?

Thanks so much for the consideration!

Hi there! My son has ADHD and a slight articulation delay (L, R, TH, SH sounds). He is in Kindergarten and finally has his letter sounds down, but he struggles blending words together. He often just tries to memorize words because he has a very good memory, and will guess as opposed to working on blending because it is so labor intensive for him. I would love suggestions on how to work on this. I am also a school-based SLP, and have loved using your phonics materials for my kiddos with phonological processes. Thanks for all that you do!

    Congratulations 🎉

I’m a first year homeschool mama of an 1st grade and preschooler, and boy could I use your help! My youngest who is 4 has a speech delay and is working with a private specialist.
I find he gets frustrated as we’re learning sounds and letters and it’s hard for me to then give my 1st grader what she needs because I’m spending extra time with him. I just doubt myself and don’t want my kiddos behind. Maybe you have some resources or ideas to help us manage as he transitions into kindergarten.

I teach kdg and tutor through 2nd grade. I would like to discuss your suggested assessment for students to pinpoint what to focus on during tutoring to help them improve their reading. I would also like to know how you would use the hour of time to do this. (I do understand it is not a one size fits all plan and that it would vary depending on the outcome of the assessment.) Because so many students are needing help and there are very few teachers able to tutor I am trying to assess to see what is needed, make a plan and begin it to be certain it is helpful, then share the materials and plan with their teacher/parents to work with them a little each day while I meet with them periodically to check progress.

    Hi Anna,
I am a reading/math interventionist for fourth and fifth graders. Your website/blog is mostly geared towards early readers, but there are of course upper elementary grade students who need remediation with the concepts/skills of early reading. I have listened to and read some of your posts about the science of reading and would like to discuss with you more about your thoughts on this topic as well as your general thoughts on reading education in general. Congratulations on ten years! Time really flies!

I have been teaching a struggling 1st grade reader after school and would like to discuss the best way to structure this very limited time. I am also thinking of starting a tutoring business with another teacher, offering reading interventions and support for K-3rd grade. I am concerned that many beginning readers need a different approach or more support than our schools can offer.

Our district is in the process of looking for new literacy curriculum. I would love to be able to chat with you about what things we should be looking for in the curriculum so that it aligns with SOR and through the grades (1-6).

    Thank you,

I am a K-6 Resource Teacher. I service students both in and out of the classroom. I have been teaching students phonetics decoding and encoding for years. It always seemed to be what they were missing.
Now that the Science of Reading has become a loud part of our teaching world, I want to make a difference with our Kindergarten through Third grade teachers. As their colleague I walk a fine line with sharing knowledge and “instructing” them to consider teaching differently. I am hoping to discuss ways to gently influence their teaching to include a more structured approach to teaching literacy.

Hello! I am OG trained and working one-on-one with a student for part of the day, while coteaching the rest of the day. I have a wonderful co-teacher and while we have Fundations to support students during the day, we still use the workshop model for our other literacy block. We are fierce advocates for the SOR and doing our best to do what’s right for our students including spending endless hours printing decodables, activities, etc. that will support our learners. I guess my questions would be.. how could we advocate more to admin for a full change of direction instead of them just resting on us “doing a great job..”…how can we better differentiate to support our struggling learners while pushing students who are ready to learn higher concepts? And finally…all the organization tips!! Thank you for all you’re doing!

As an ESL teacher and Reading Interventionist, I need to be very conscious of what my dyslexic students should be learning. Two of my biggest struggles are having them enunciate proper English sounds, and organizing my 30-minute lessons with students from 1st-5th grade (keeping track of lessons, and having materials easily accessible)

I am a Special Education Literacy Teacher from SK to grade 3. I took your course given over the summer and loved it. You and Becky Spence opened my eyes, and I knew I had to make a change because my job was using the LLI Intervention program for so many students it helped, but there I was always a few that fell through the cracks. After the course, I switched to decodable. Now my preschool principal and I are starting to look for a program to implement for our school. I would love to discuss this with you and get some possible guidance in the area. I love your podcast, and you have inspired me a great deal.
