I enjoyed the podcast, thank you. I’d like to know if you recommend a sound wall/vowel valley bulletin board for second graders who have reached syllable division, and what should be on it. (New teacher here; very ignorant – just know it’s called syllable division.)
Anna Geiger
I think that a sound wall for second grade is still useful, as most second graders are not yet solid in their spelling. So it’s a great reference as long as you actually use it and show them how to use it (otherwise it’s just wallpaper. :). I would just use a regular sound wall (you can see mine in my shop or search for sound wall on TPT – or you can purchase the Tools 4 Reading already-done sound wall).
As for syllable division, this means that they can read longer words. Parts of those words will include the phonics patterns on the sound wall.
