We love doing a variety of activities for every letter of the alphabet. But our absolute favorite is reading books that showcase each letter. Sometimes we point out the letter; sometimes we don’t. The important thing is that we’re doing a lot of reading.
(Here’s the deal … reading these books probably isn’t going to help your child learn the letters faster than direct, explicit instruction. But reading aloud to kids has about a million benefits – more or less. 😉 So I like to find every possible reason to read aloud!)
When we were compiling these lists I reserved stacks of books from the library and read them at home with my kids. Only our favorites made it into our alphabet book lists! We hope you enjoy our recommendations and discover some new and vintage books you’ve never seen.

Thank you so very much for all the time and effort you have put into establishing these book lists. I’m a former third grade teacher who is now homeschooling my 3 year old and these lists have been a huge help when planning for daily read alouds. Thanks again!

I’m so glad you can use these lists, Laura! I love putting book lists together – it helps me find new books for my kids to enjoy, and ensures that I make time to read to them often. 🙂
