Letter Y Rhymes & Songs – free letter book!

Okay – letter Y was pretty tough. There isn’t exactly a huge repertoire of songs about yo-yo’s and yaks.  Many of these are some nursery rhymes that were new to me — thank goodness for the classic Yankee Doodle!

These are the rhymes and songs you’ll find in the little book:

Y is for York

Oh, The grand old Duke of York,
He had ten thousand men;
He marched them up to the top of the hill,
And he marched them down again.

And when they were up, they were up,
And when they were down, they were down,
And when they were only half-way up,
They were neither up nor down.

Y is for You Shall Have An Apple

You shall have an apple,
You shall have a plum,
You shall have a rattle,
When Papa comes home.

Y is for You Put Your Whole Self In

You put your whole self in,
You put your whole self out.
You put your whole self in
And you shake it all about.
You do the Hokey Pokey
And you turn yourself around.
That’s what it’s all about!

 Y is for Yankee Doodle

Yankee Doodle went to London
Just to ride a pony.
Stuck a feather in his hat
And called it macaroni!

Y is for Yo-Yo (Sing to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”)

Yo-yo starts with letter y,
Letter y, letter y,
Yo-yo starts with letter y,
/y/, /y/, /y/, /y/!

Y is for Did You Ever See a Rabbit?  (hear the tune here)

Did you ever see a rabbit, a rabbit, a rabbit,
Did you ever see a rabbit, move this way and that?  (sing fast)

Did you ever see a turtle, a turtle, a turtle,
Did you ever see a turtle, move this way and that? (sing slow)

To assemble a Little Letter Book:

  • Print the document in color (if you desire) on cardstock.  Be sure to print pages 2-3  front to back (page 1 is my Terms of Use). You will need only one piece of paper.
  • Cut an even line across the center of the page.
  • Fold the two sheets to make a book. Make sure the cover is in front, and insert the other page inside.
  • Staple with a long arm stapler.
