Today I’m excited to share a Bible songbook for kids — it’s packed with 100 original songs!
We love to sing at our house. It’s kind of evident when you step in the door because we have three pianos.
When we got married, I had one. My husband had two.
Now we have three.
But you know what? We don’t even need a piano for these songs because they’re all set to familiar tunes.
The book is Burst into Jubilant Song! by Laura Cherney.
She’s a young wife and mom who’s been writing Bible songs since she was in grade school. Now she’s self-published her original songs on Lulu.com — where you can go to get your own copy.
My six-year-old couldn’t wait to get her hands on our book when it arrived in the mail. If you’d like, click on the links to hear her sing the sample songs.
Sneaky Serpent – sung to the tune of Skip to My Lou
(Listen to my daughter sing it here.) — click the link and then hit “download” when you get to Google drive
First was Adam, then came Eve,
First was Adam, then came Eve,
First was Adam, then came Eve,
They both lived in Eden.
Eat the fruit from any tree,
Eat the fruit from any tree,
Eat the fruit from any tree,
Except of good and evil!
The crafty serpent told a lie,
The crafty serpent told a lie,
The crafty serpent told a lie,
“Don’t listen to God!”
“Take this fruit, I’ll take one, too,
“Take this fruit, I’ll take one, too,
“Take this fruit, I’ll take one, too,
We’ll know good and evil!”
Adam and Eve have to go,
They both ate and now they know,
Life will now be filled with woe,
But God will send a Savior!
The Sycamore Tree’s Unusual Harvest – sung to the tune of Oh My Darling, Clementine!
(Listen to my daughter sing it here.)
Oh, Zacchaeus,
Oh, Zacchaeus,
Oh, you tax collector, you,
You are so short you can’t see Jesus,
What’s a little guy to do?
Oh, Zacchaeus,
Oh, Zacchaeus,
Quick climb up into a tree,
There up high you can see Jesus,
Here he comes, now, you can see.
Oh, Zacchaeus,
Oh, Zacchaeus,
“Come on down right away,
From that sycamore fig tree,
I must stay with you today!”
Earth to Jesus. Come in, Jesus – sung to the tune of Are You Sleeping?
Listen to my daughter sing it here.
Where is Jesus, where is Jesus?
In the grave? In the grave?
No, he rose this morning! No, he rose this morning!
We are saved! We are saved!
Why “Burst into Jubilant Song” is a great purchase:
1) You get 100 easy-to-learn songs.
2) We’re talking variety here — you get songs about Abraham, Balaam, Elijah, the fiery furnace, Moses, Naaman, Neubuchadnezzar… and 93 more!
3) You’ll find songs for toddlers (my three-year-old was singing that Adam and Eve song all day after I taught it to him in Sunday School!) as well as songs for older kids — songs to teach the plagues, the commandments, and the names of the disciples.
4) These songs are original. I don’t just mean original to the author. I mean unique and often funny. You may have picked that up by the song titles above! Check out this song about the prodigal son, sung to the tune of She’ll Be Coming’Round the Mountain:
He left home with his gold and dreams so big (Good bye!)
But he ended up poor and feeding pigs (In a sty!)
“I see now this is a folly,
I’ll go home and say I’m sorry.”
His dad said, “I forgive you, welcome home!” (He’s back!)

I just discovered your blog via Pinterest. You have great ideas for my two youngest children, and I have spent quite a bit of time learning my way around your site. I would use the song book with both my own family as well as my church family. I teach Sunday School, and I usually direct our VBS. I am quite musically challenged so any help would be appreciated!

I would use these great songs with my children at home but I’m also privileged to teach in a Christian school so my Kindergarten class would love them too! It’s great to have another option for helping teach these Bible stories.

We would use it daily.

Your website is wonderful. Thank you for sharing your resources with others. I would really enjoy sharing this with our children. The greater and deeper God’s word can dwell in their hearts the better! I am desperate for change and healing for our little 6 year old. I am encouraged that His Word does not return void. : )

I love the CD from the samples posted. I’m trying to create night bible time (same story for a few days until the kids understand that story). I like yo use different activities each night to make the story real – this would be a great addition
