Rhymes for Letter V: Little Letter V Book

My almost-three-year-old loves to learn the songs in our Little Letter Books.  When I began using these books with him he knew about three letters.  Now he knows nearly all 26.  Besides helping him learn his letter names, they’ve also helped him learn to rhyme – which is an essential skill for learning to read (see Why Is Rhyming Important?).

It was pretty tough to find rhymes for letter V, so I made up some of my own.  Thankfully I had a burst of creative energy during nap time one afternoon. 🙂  You are welcome to use any of my original rhymes in any way, as long as you credit themeasuredmom.com right next to the rhyme.  Thanks!

Rhymes for Letter V: Little Letter V Book

(This post contains affiliate links.)

Here are the songs and rhymes included in the mini-book:

V is for Vacuum (original rhyme © The Measured Mom;  to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little vacuum,
Hear me vroom,
Over the floor and
All across the room.
When I get all revved up,
See me work,
Cleaning up the carpet
And sucking up the dirt.
VROOM!

V is for Volcano (original rhyme © The Measured Mom;  to the tune of “Are You Sleeping?”)

Big volcano, big volcano,
Getting hot, getting hot!
Now the lava’s coming,
Now the lava’s coming
Out the top! Out the top!

V is for Vacation (from everythingpreschool.com ; to the tune of “She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain”)

Oh, we’re going on vacation in a plane (zoom zoom)!
Oh, we’re going on vacation in a plane (zoom zoom)!
Oh, we’re going on vacation,
We’re going on vacation,
We’re going on vacation in a plane (zoom zoom)!

Oh, we’re going on vacation on a train (choo choo)…

Oh, we’re going on vacation in our car (beep beep)…

V is for Vegetables (original rhyme © The Measured Mom;  to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)

In my garden I will grow
Vegetables from row to row.
Carrots, peppers, green beans, too.
Planting seeds until I’m through.
In my garden I will grow
Vegetables from row to row.

V is for Violin  (original rhyme © The Measured Mom;  to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”)

Play, play, play a tune,
On your violin.
Very loud and very soft.
Play it once again.

V is for Veterinarian  (from everythingpreschool.com; to the tune of “Oh My Darling, Clementine”)

Bring your dogs, bring your cats,
Bring your hamsters one by one.
‘Cause I take care of the animals,
I’m a veterinarian.

To assemble a Little Letter Book:

  • Print the document in color (if you desire) on cardstock.  Be sure to print pages 2-3  front to back (page 1 is my Terms of Use). You will need only one piece of paper.
  • Cut an even line across the center of the page.
  • Fold the two sheets to make a book. Make sure the cover is in front, and insert the other page inside.
  • Staple with a long arm stapler.
