Rhymes for Letter X: Little Letter X Book

Please forgive me for not filling the letter X book with words that  begin with X.  Xylophone doesn’t exactly teach the sound of x, anyway.  Instead, the mini-book’s rhymes mainly consist of words that have x within them.

Rhymes for Letter X: Little Letter X Book

You are welcome to use any of my original rhymes in any way, as long as you credit themeasuredmom.com right next to the rhyme.  Thanks!

Here are the rhymes and songs included in the mini-book:

X is in Taxi (original rhyme © The Measured Mom; to the tune of “Farmer in the Dell”)

A taxi is a car,
A taxi is a car,
You tell the driver where to go,
And then you ride that far.

X is in Six (for the tune, click here)

Six little ducks that I once knew,
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too.
But the only little duck with the feather on his back,
He led the others with a “Quack quack quack!”

X is for X-ray (sing to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”)

X-ray starts with letter X,
Letter X, Letter X.
X-ray starts with letter X,
/ks/, /ks/, /ks/, /ks/!

X is in Sixpence (for the tune click here)

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing.
Wasn’t that a dainty dish to set
before the king?

X is in Fox (for the tune click here)

A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go,
Heigh ho, the derry-o, a hunting we will go.
A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go,
We’ll catch a fox and put him in a box,
And then we’ll let him go.

X is in Mixing (original rhyme © The Measured Mom; to the tune of “Are You Sleeping?”)

Are you mixing
Are you mixing
Over there, over there?
Are you making cookies,
Are you making cookies?
Will you share? Will you share?

To assemble a Little Letter Book:

  • Print the document in color (if you desire) on cardstock.  Be sure to print pages 2-3  front to back (page 1 is my Terms of Use). You will need only one piece of paper.
  • Cut an even line across the center of the page.
  • Fold the two sheets to make a book. Make sure the cover is in front, and insert the other page inside.
  • Staple with a long arm stapler.

Anna: Congrats on your awesome website and thank you for sharing God’s given talents to you!
Please be so kind and let me know how I may go about printing the Letter X printable book. I just tried with no success. I too teach the letter X as you do! I agree the other way around can be very confusing and not very practical. Thanks again for your beautiful and dedicated work!!

I love this…very creative! I also gave up on teaching words that began with the letter x because words like xylophone would just confuse my daughter. Thank you for sharing this. Your generosity with your talent and time is very much appreciated!
