We’re moving through the alphabet, and with each letter I share a printable letter book. Today’s book has six songs and rhymes for letter O.
Songs and Rhymes for Letter O
(This post contains affiliate links.)
Putting together these books of rhymes is fun for me, but the letter O was a tough one! Some of these rhymes were new to me.
Here are the songs and rhymes in the little book:
O is for Old Mother Goose
Old Mother Goose,
When she wanted to wander,
Would ride through the air
On a very fine gander.
O is for On Top of Spaghetti (to the tune of “On Top of Old Smokey”)
On top of spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball,
When somebody sneezed.
It rolled off the table,
And on to the floor,
And then my poor meatball,
Rolled out of the door.
It rolled in the garden,
And under a bush,
And then my poor meatball,
Was nothing but mush.
O is for Over the River and through the Wood
Over the river and through the wood,
To Grandfather’s house we go;
The horse knows the way
To carry the sleigh,
Through the white and drifted snow, oh!
Over the river and through the wood,
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes,
And bites the nose,
As over the ground we go.
O is for Old Chairs to Mend
Old chairs to mend,
Old chairs to mend!
If I’d as much money
As I could spend,
I never would cry,
“Old chairs to mend!”
O is for Open, Shut Them
Open, shut them,
Open, shut them,
Give a little clap.
Open, shut them,
Open, shut them,
Lay them in your lap.
O is for Old Owl
A wise old owl lived in an oak.
The more he saw the less he spoke.
The less he spoke the more he heard.
Why can’t we be like that wise old bird?
How to assemble my Little Letter Books:
- Print the document in color (if you desire) on cardstock. Be sure to print pages 2-3 front to back (page 1 is my Terms of Use). You will need only one piece of paper.
- Cut an even line across the center of the page.
- Fold the two sheets to make a book. Make sure the cover is in front, and insert the other page inside.
- Staple with a long arm stapler.

jeannine: waddleeahchaa
Anna, I am returning to Cambodia this summer to continue my volunteer teacher training with the sweetest young teachers ever! Thank you for the printables and ideas that I can share with them.

Oh, Jeannine, how wonderful! Are you taking your kids (Miss Enigma and MacGyver I think) with you? I hope you’ll post about what you do over there. Exciting!!
Toni
Ooh, I love these little books! We just got started using them last week and my little girl is already reciting almost all of the rhymes in her first little book. She definitely has some favorites, but last night she surprised me by reciting even one of the more obscure poems. Thank you so much for this awesome resource. These books help my 3 1/2 year old with her letters, plus I get to introduce her to a lot of nursery rhymes that were being neglected.

I love to hear that you’re using these, Toni! They were definitely the key to getting my 2 1/2 year old interested in the alphabet. (He’s 4 now.) We learned a lot of new rhymes too!
