This quick, low prep activity helped my kindergartner master i-e words!

fold and read i-e words

After our success with our a-e fold and read cards, I knew we needed a set for the i-e words. This simple reading activity is one of my kindergartner’s favorites.

i-e activity 1

You will love how quick and low prep this is!  Just print the pages front to back.

Then cut out the individual words.

i-e activity 2

Your child should read the short i word. (Sorry for the blurry picture!)

i-e activity 6

Then he folds in the side to read the new word, changing the short i sound to the long i sound.

i-e activity 3

For words that end with ck, your child will fold up to the line…

i-e activity 4
and notice that the letter c disappears.

The download comes with 15 different i-e words for your child to read.

This is just one of several activities I’ll be sharing to help your child learn to master i-e words.  Stay tuned!

YOU’LL LOVE THIS PRACTICAL BOOK!

You have been such a wonderful resource for me with your creative ideas and hands-on activities. I just came across your Fold and Read cards to help teach silent e words. They will be perfect for the special needs student I am currently tutoring. But I am having trouble finding a way to download the little books that I want to use to support them; there is a picture of a page that says “She can bake it … cake”, but no place (that I can see) to click on to download them. What am I missing?
