Print this free write the room activity for short i words - in three levels of difficulty!

Have you tried “write the room” with your learners yet? It’s a great way to get them reading, paying attention to the letters in words, and even practicing penmanship.

I like to use these with my Six when he gets home from kindergarten. I simply give him the recording sheet and a pencil. Then he hunts for all the word/picture cards I’ve posted around the house.

Because he’s pretty solid on CVC words, I give him the most challenging cards. He has to find the corresponding picture on his board and unscramble the word.

He really enjoys this challenge, but you can use a simpler version if you like. Have students copy the word as written instead of unscramble the letters. You’ll find that option in the download.

You could also use level 2. That set of cards requires children to find the word cards and copy them next to their corresponding picture.

Thank you for your wonderful free worksheets. I am teaching my Granddaughter to read and write in English as the medium in school is Welsh. She is dyslexic and as a retired dyslexia teacher your worksheets have saved me hours of work and my granddaughter loves them. Cannot recommend you enough.

Thank you for this resource! My kids loved the short a cards! Will you be doing short e, as well, or did I miss that?

    Hi Anna,

Thanks for taking the time to empower us with your knowledge, not only to benefit my own children but others I can offer help to. I love literacy because it helps children to learn about themselves, people and the world in which they live.

Thumbs up! May God bless you abundantly.
