And of course we’ve used our Word Family Houses.  What I love about all these activities is that not a single one requires a worksheet.  My Five enjoys doing them and is starting to read more quickly. I love it when he sounds out a word on a sign or on a package in the grocery store without my prompting. We’re on our way!

To assemble the word family houses, follow these steps:

1) Print the document on brightly colored cardstock.  Here’s what a sample download will look like:

2. Cut out the house and wheel.  Make sure to cut into the house and snip out the window, too.

3. Laminate both pieces. I love this affordable home laminator.  If you’ve cut out the window before laminating, you will have a nice clear window.   This is what you will have:

4. Attach the pieces together with a brass fastener.  Here are our finished houses:

I found your post at Mom’s Library. This is great! I like the way you think – no work pages 🙂 I’ve pinned this and we will definitely be using these! Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks, Missy! I like worksheets once in a while, but I do think that overall they should NOT be the primary means of instruction. I hope you have fun with these! More coming soon!
